Protospatharii were initiated by Ioannis (John) Dandoulakis and Marinos Meimaris in autumn 2019, as a response to their thirst to do historical re-enactment and organise events in Greece and abroad.
 
From the very start, John focused on the historical re-enactment and living history side of the endeavour, while Marinos invested fully on the buhurt part. Over the years, other people invited or gathered around us and, in spring 2024, as their numbers grew and the span of their activities widened, they became an official branch of the Koryvantes Association.
