Who We Are

Since 2008, the "KORYVANTES" Association of Historical Studies has been at the forefront of historical research, experimental archaeology, and the exploration of ancient and traditional technologies. Our work is centered on the study of 30 centuries of Greek military technology, spanning from the 15th century BC to the 15th century AD. We are dedicated to bringing the past to life through four fundamental pillars:
-
Experimental Archaeology – Reconstructing and testing ancient artifacts, techniques, and materials to rediscover lost knowledge.
-
Living History – Reviving historical experiences through reenactments, demonstrations, and hands-on education.
-
Interpretation – Bridging history with modern audiences through innovative storytelling and consulting.
-
Ancient and Traditional Technology – Researching and reconstructing historical craftsmanship, metallurgy, and engineering to understand their significance and evolution.
Our intellectual property is widely recognized and applied in multiple fields, including the Film industry, Academic Publications, Historical Consulting, Multimedia & Video Games, lectures, and live presentations.

Meet The Members
The History of the Association
The roots of the "Koryvantes" Historical Studies Association trace back to the early 2000s, a pivotal period for historical reenactment in Greece. Recognizing the need for an organized institution dedicated to the accurate and research-based revival of ancient traditions, a pioneering group of enthusiasts laid the groundwork for what would become a landmark organization in the field. In 2008, the first official Αssociation was established in Athens, quickly expanding its scope to encompass a wide range of activities both in Greece and abroad, attracting a growing number of members who shared a passion for historical exploration.

From its inception, "Koryvantes" set new standards for historical research and experimental archaeology in Greece. The association was the first to introduce experimental archaeology into the national public discourse through landmark reconstructions, including the Linothorax armor in 2010 and the Dendra Panoply in 2012. These projects, alongside many others, showcased a commitment to rigorous academic methodology and practical experimentation. Furthermore, our extensive research gained significant public attention and was instrumental in introducing the study of experimental battlefield archaeology of the ancient Greek world into Greece’s specialized history and archaeology publications. For the first time, mainstream and specialized media in Greece engaged with the methodology and findings of experimental archaeology, acknowledging its value in reconstructing ancient military practices.

Beyond academic circles, "Koryvantes" played a key role in bringing experimental archaeology to a wider audience, collaborating with leading scholars, museums, and cultural institutions. Our research has influenced not only historical reenactment communities but also academic curricula, inspiring new generations of scholars and practitioners. Through international conferences, publications, and high-profile media appearances, the association has actively contributed to shaping the discourse on ancient warfare, material culture, and martial traditions from an evidence-based perspective.

Operating entirely on self-funding, without any government grants or financial support, "Koryvantes" achieved remarkable international recognition. By 2019, the association had published over 25 academic papers in leading experimental archaeology and history journals, participated in more than 15 major international television productions (BBC, History Channel, ITV, TV5, and many more), and represented Greece in over 30 international missions. These included academic conferences, archaeological museums, open-air museums, and cultural festivals across South Korea, China, Poland, Germany, Russia, the United Kingdom, and beyond.

Additionally, the organization has contributed valuable intellectual content to the multimedia and video game industry, with notable collaborations such as Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (Ubisoft) and expansions of Rome: Total War. Our research and reconstructions have provided historical authenticity and depth to these productions, further expanding the reach of ancient Greek military traditions to a global audience.Through these efforts, "Koryvantes" played a crucial role in promoting ancient Greek military traditions at the highest level.

In response to its increasing involvement in traditional archery, the association established the "Koryvantes" Archery Sports Club in 2017, based in Thessaloniki. This club became an official member of the Hellenic Archery Federation (EOT) and was formally recognized by the Greek General Secretariat of Sports. Over the years, it has grown to include dozens of athletes and has achieved numerous distinctions in competitive archery.

The onset of the COVID-19 pandemic brought new challenges and the necessity for structural refinement. In 2022, "Koryvantes" underwent a significant reformation, adopting an updated constitution fully aligned with international standards in experimental archaeology, living history, and interpretive reenactment. This renewal marked the beginning of a new chapter, reinforcing the association’s mission to innovate, explore, and preserve history through meticulous research and hands-on experience.

Today, "Koryvantes" continues to lead the way in historical studies, experimental archaeology, and cultural preservation, forging ahead with a vision that honors the past while shaping the future of historical interpretation on a global scale.
